What the fuck am I even doing here?

It’s a bright and early Thursday morning, and I should be home, letting the staff I pay entirely too much make me a breakfast that doesn't make me feel ten pounds heavier—all of it grease.

I should be drinking a cup of bold French press coffee. But instead, once again, I’m here at this run-down diner, the Rolls Royce I have parked in the cracked-asphalt parking lot outside worth more than the entire building, and all the other cars outside combined.

This is not a place I belong. I’ve spent decades of my life working just so I never had to set foot in dumps like this anymore. I keep spending my fucking money here, and just like I thought it would be, this coffee is fucking disgusting.

So here I am, drinking it every day for the past three months, pretending it doesn't taste like tainted water. I obediently devour the overdone eggs, greasy, charred bacon, and stale bread while questioning my actions and whether I'm still sane.

Even though I know I'll return here tomorrow and the day after. As long as she’s here, I’m going to keep coming.

Of course, it’s not the fucking food. I’ve spent most of my life eating just for fuel and nothing else. The food at this place does the opposite of fueling me, though. I leave nauseous, and I’m hungry again in the next two hours.

I’m here to satiate a different kind of hunger. Or to endlessly tempt myself with it, letting the thing I want the most exist right outside my grasp forever.

Speak of the devil…

There she is, an apron tied around her full hips as she sways over to my booth and gives me that warm, sweet smile that haunts my dreams. “Do you need anything else?”

Yes, sweetheart. You, I think but don’t say it out loud. I look at her and shake my head. “Not right now, honey.”

“Okay, just holler if you want something!” She hesitates like she wants to say something else, but then just nods in that perky way of hers and bounces off. Her round ass bounces too, and I chug a drink of the terrible coffee just to stop myself from staring.

Once I force the horrible liquid down, I drag a hand over my face. I need to stop. This obsession needs to stop. I’m twice her age and with more enemies than I can count. Simply frequenting her place of work is putting her at more risk than she’s probably ever been in in her entire life. It’s selfish. I’m selfish.

But I already knew that about myself, and it’s no surprise.

No matter what I tell her, there is something that I want. Something only she can provide. Something that involves her small hands and pretty mouth and even prettier…

My grip on the coffee cup is so tight that I think it might shatter. Stop. Just fucking leave, you fucking old pervert. You’re forty years old, and she’s what? Eighteen? Twenty? Get it together.
